Local News; WLKY Media Critique

I have been following WLKY news station for its local news, and there are many non-newsworthy articles on its webpage for example the article over, “Murder victim's son says he cannot forgive father's killer” by Anna-Lysa Gayle. This murder is a blown up murder making it more than what it is. In this article but there isn’t a lot of context in the article. There isn’t a lot of flow to the article. Even though it’s a murder and it is very sad doesn’t mean it needs to be news. Seems like every murder that happens that is in the West End part of Louisville it is always a news story. This news story is a very non-newsworthy story because it doesn’t explain at the murder that well. I think that this story shouldn’t even be on the news station because it is a useless story about another murder. Also there isn’t a lot of explanation to the article, for example they really don’t say a lot about the murder they explain it very vaguely.

Local news; WDRB media critque

I have been following WDRB news station and they have a lot of articles that are not important headline stories. For example o “Runaway NORAD blimp on the ground secured, according to Pa. state police” this is a very blown up article basically talking about a blimp that got lose and the finally got it back. The most dangerous thing the blimp did was that it caused 18,000 power outages, that is a big deal but there shouldn’t be a whole article over how the blimp got lose there should be an article over how the blimp caused 18,000 power outages. There is no explanation in this article showing us the big picture and saying why. This article is very vague and doesn’t show a lot of information at all. This article is kind of a newsworthy article but it doesn’t have a lot of newsworthy to it. This article needs to find the valuable information in it and make that an article because this article looks like it was put together in ten minutes. It is a very short article and has little facts about the blimp going off the ground and causing damage it should go into to more depth and show more information about the interesting and less about the obvious. This should be a type of article that is Peripheral topic like an accident it shouldn’t be a news story. This article should be a story let along a headline about a blimp.

Local news; WHAS media critique

The news article from WHAS news station about “UofL not confirming reports NCAA investigators on campus” is an article that doesn’t give a lot of information and explains things very vaguely and doesn’t explain the big picture of the paper. Obviously it’s about UofL not confirming reports from NCAA, but doesn’t say what the reports are not confirming and explain what is going out through the article. There isn’t a lot of local relevance in the article like in another words the article doesn’t directly concerns the viewer or the readership area surrounding local news organizations. There is also a lot of not making the important interesting, it looks like there is a lot of important information in this article but doesn’t make that information important. The article just leads something important and then ends and doesn’t finish the sentence. There needs to be more complete thoughts with this article and explain things better and not make the article simple and explain the importance.  This article is news but it isn’t a very good written news article, there are a lot of items from the seven basic yardsticks of journalism.

Local News; WAVE media critique

I have been following WAVE news station and this news station has many non-newsworthy stories for example the news story over, “Economy Inn to host Halloween Party” this news story lacks a lot of items in the seven basic yardsticks of journalism. There is a lack of context in this article for example the article says “Some people in the city want it shut down - claiming it's dirty and crime ridden. But the owners of the Economy Inn on Bardstown Road say they have made many changes and they are inviting the neighborhood over to trick or treat” (from the wave news website) The reason why it lacks context is because there isn’t a lot of information in this article and doesn’t explain things really well which leads me into why this article doesn’t have a lot of explanation in it. It just says come to the Economy Inn Halloween Party and explains what people have been saying about the hotel. It doesn’t explain the importance of the article and doesn’t grab the reader’s attention of why it is a good news story. There is no big picture of this article; this is basically like an ad that the news station put in the news section. Wave news station puts articles that aren’t important into their news section.

Local News; Courier Journal Media Critique

I have been following the Courier Journal for my local news, the courier Journal has a lot of non-newsworthy items like the story over, “4 easy tips for a better time replacing your home’s windows”. This article is about getting new windows for your house and gives you steps of what to do when you need to get new windows. There isn’t a lot of explanation in this article, many things come to a dead end with unfinished thoughts. It looks like to me that The Courier Journal posted this article just to have the web site full for news.  This is also not newsworthy at all, there is no meaning to the piece except telling you if you need windows for your house then you should do these things to get them. This article is probably fluff and just on the website for space and make it look important, like I said in the beginning.  It is also not making the important interesting, this is a dead article on The Courier Journal. It isn’t pulling anyone’s attention to the article it is like an ad basically but they have it as a news story. For example in the article this is the first sentence it says, “Imagine this scenario: You walk into your bedroom and feel a draft even though the windows are closed.” This is a very boring lead to an article a very original lead basically putting the reader into the writers place telling them to buy windows.

My response to Mattie

I read Mattie's piece or post of demassification  and I thought Mattie did a great job about talking about all the steps and process about demassification. She explained everything really good talking about her opinion and what she got out of the lecture we had in class. She also compared the demassification to her father and talked bout how they only had one channel when growing up in childhood. She explained everything great and showed she put good ideas and effort into her post.
