My response to Maya

I am responding to Maya's post to Binary Models. She talked about what she learned in the class and explain everything that he learned and got from and she gave her opinion on how she thought of things. She talked about the newspapers and how she compared it to what she got o the lesson. Nya did a great job on her pot and she a lot ofthought and effort into her post.

My response to Mattie

I read Mattie's piece or post of demassification  and I thought Mattie did a great job about talking about all the steps and process about demassification. She explained everything really good talking about her opinion and what she got out of the lecture we had in class. She also compared the demassification to her father and talked bout how they only had one channel when growing up in childhood. She explained everything great and showed she put good ideas and effort into her post.

Media Critique

Right now in CNN news there is a story about a Muslim teen Ahmed Mohamed who was arrested for making a clock for the teacher hoping that the teacher likes it but instead the teacher finds offense and the school calls the police and Ahmed is arrested and accused of his clock being a bomb. Ashely Fantz covered the story and she did a good job explaining the situation really well talking about why the teacher thought that it was a bomb and also talks a lot about the police but the one thing she doesn't do really well is gives Ahmed side of the story that well he really didn't get to say what he thought about why he was arrested or why his teacher thought it was a bomb. Ashely Fantz peice was newsworthiness she talked about the story topic or the core of the passage. She's a really good writier explaining the context about the story but she is very weak in doing the explanation of the passage like she didn't talk about how Ahmed felt about the whole situation. She interviewed the police officer that arrested him,  Ahmeds teacher, and also Ahmeds family at his house but where was Ahmed. She should get both sides of the story. She also did a good job bringing other people into the story like President Obama into the article saying he would be delighted to bring Ahmed to the White House and also bring his clock. There isn't that much critiquing to this article she gave local relevance, civic contribution, enterprise and fairness. She was really fair about her piece and she stated biased information it's important that a journalism article of true and gives the correct information. When you report you also have to have loyalty, truth, verification, independence, watchdog, forum, inclusive, room for dissent, analyze, and make the important interesting. She used all this and complied to it. Ashely is a good journalist and writes about valuable information in the text. Ashely was a great writer and I would be delighted to read another peice of hers.

Books

In class we learned about the history of books. At first I thought this would be the most boring lecture but it was quite interesting learning about who could read and how important was to be able to read. Like in society earlier in time vast majority was illiterate , royalty, church and wealthy merchants were mostly the only people the were able to read. Even wealthy women at the time not all learned how to read some did but it was only for learning games and recipes to cook. They won't teach girls how to learn to read just to they would have to have reasoning behind it. But way back earlier in time they would need to print the books and I also learned this from our lecture that the Romans had the first screw press in B.C.E. Then China came up with wood locking prints it was kind of a movable press and that was 1040 C.E. Then came a man called Gutenburg who made a movable metal printer type press in 1450. Then around 1482 there was around 100 presses then the 1500's came and the there were 2500 cities that had Gutenburgs printing device. There was many effects of the printing later in life there was a widespread literacy, and also the renaissance like science, art, music, etc but this lecture told me so much about books that I didn't even think about this really was cool to know all this about books I didn't know where books came before I heard the lecture about this.

7 yardsticks of Journalism

In class we learned about the " Seven basic yardsticks of journalism quality" , the seven things we learned about newsworthiness, context, explanation, local relevance , civic contribution, enterprise, and fairness. These seven basic yardsticks help me understand journalism a lot better finding out what to do and what not to do while you are a journalist. Each of these yardsticks has different definitions or ways these are used. This was a very important thing we learned in class because it will help us in the future when we report things and how to use are information.  But in this section in class we took notes on this and it really help this was also and very interesting lecture we did in class also because this was the first thing that helped me with journalism class learning and figuring out how to do things. There were many core topics about the seven yard sticks like for example there is politics, government action, natural disaster and education etc these are things you would use the seven yardsticks in journalism. There's also peripheral topics in the seven yardsticks too like human interest, celebrities, sports and minor fires or accidents stuff like that is also in the seven yardsticks. This was probably the most useful thing we have done so far in journalism.

Newspaper

What I learned about newspaper in lecture 4 in class was that newspaper has been around for the longest time. Its been here every since people were able to print. Newspapers have been around since the 1800's and that's almost 200 years. What I learned from this lecture that I didn't know newspaper have been around that long. I also wonder where the name newspaper came from. Also I learned about John Peter Zengar and he wrote rude things about government and I also learned about that the truth is the ultimate defense vs libel like for example when you print or record something that is bad for someone's reputation. Also party papers were good things about their party, bad things about other party's this was elitist in newspapers but there was also the penny press which was populist , people made copies then old sold them for a penny. I also found out about muckrakers people thought found dirt on you and told the press about you. The history of newspaper was very interesting finding out who made the first newspapers and found out all the important dates that happen in newspaper dates.

Binary Models

My response on Binary Models that in this lecture we talked about hot and cold binary's.  We talked about populist and elitist news.  I thought that the information about the binary models was very useful and good information about how to tell between good news and not good news. There is a lot of false information news. I got a lot out of this lecture beacause it told  how to find valuable
information in news. At first I was confused how to tell the difference between elitist and populist news because I thought it was all the same until I heard this lecture. There are many elitist and populist news like news that report about celebrities are elitist news but factual news is like "CNN" news. There are also hot and cold mediums as I said in the beginning. But this lecture is very valuable to me because I can realize information that is good or bad. This helps a lot when you are  in journalism and reporting news and finding facts about  stuff.
